OVERVIEW

DBHDD operates state hospitals and provides for community-based services across the state through contracted providers. The department serves people living with mental health challenges, substance use disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, or any combination of these. As Georgia’s public safety net, our primary responsibility is to serve people who are uninsured. We also serve individuals on Medicaid and others with few resources or options.

Assistant Public Defender - Brunswick Judicial Circuit

Job Description and Requirements:

Assistant Public Defender I

The Brunswick Judicial Circuit Public Defender's Office is seeking to fill an Assistant Public Defender I position. Primary duties include representing indigent clients with criminal case(s) in Superior Court and Juvenile Courts for Glynn County. Applicants must meet the qualifications and have the necessary skills to perform the job duties and responsibilities for the position: including, but not limited to, preparation and presentation of cases for trial, and entering of pleas in both felony and misdemeanour cases in Superior Court. Under supervision of the supervising attorney, the chosen candidate will also be responsible for conducting legal research, including researching precedents in cases, preparation and dissemination of complex documents, pleadings compilation, orders, etc. A willingness to handle juvenile cases is a plus. Bilingual is a preference, but is not required.

Applicants must be a current member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia. The position will be open until filled.

Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university AND license to practice law in the State of Georgia OR eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination OR reciprocity (must obtain Law License). Note: Some positions may not allow the eligibility clause.
