Georgia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Disabilities


OVERVIEW

DBHDD operates state hospitals and provides for community-based services across the state through contracted providers. The department serves people living with mental health challenges, substance use disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, or any combination of these. As Georgia’s public safety net, our primary responsibility is to serve people who are uninsured. We also serve individuals on Medicaid and others with few resources or options.

JOB SUMMARY:


Plans and assists with custody and security of youth in DJJ custody. May develop and implement security policies and procedures. Directs subordinate supervisors and staff. 

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES:

• May develop and implement security and control of contraband policies and procedures. Oversees the transfer of youth from one facility to another.
• Supervises assigned correctional staff and ensures conformity with department and facility security policies and procedures and implements emergency plans and procedures. Interviews, hires, directs, trains, evaluates the performance of, and when necessary, disciplines and discharges corrections employees.
• Coordinates youth activities and headcount procedures.
• Assures that law and order are maintained and that the laws, policies, rules and regulations are enforced to prevent crimes and to protect lives and property.

DJJ IS AN EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
 

High school diploma or GED AND P.O.S.T. certification AND Two years of experience at a level equivalent to a supervisory law enforcement position OR One year of experience required at the lower level Correctional Lieutenant (PSP065) or position equivalent.
