Vocational Rehabilitation Agency, Georgia - GVRA

The Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Division provides a variety of individual services to persons with disabilities in preparation for their employment in the competitive labor market and to employers seeking to retain valuable employees with disabilities or hire qualified individuals for their workforce. 

We are currently seeking Career Specialists to work directly with the general population in the areas of job exploration counseling, work based learning experiences, post-secondary educational programs, work place readiness and social skills support, independent living skills and self-advocacy training.  

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 
  1. Support Vocational Rehabilitation counselors in working with clients in all areas of job exploration, counseling and guidance, job readiness, social skills support and assessments so they are prepared to enter competitive, integrated employment.
  2. Coordinate, provide and document career exploration and assessments with clients leading to employment opportunities in their chosen career. 
  3. In conjunction with the GVRA VR Staff and Employment Services, coordinate and document opportunities for clients to receive and participate in work based learning, apprenticeships and internships.
  4. Educate and inform clients of short and long term post-secondary training opportunities resulting in WIOA recognized certifications and credentials, and assist clients in gaining an understanding of how different training options may meet their individual needs.
  5. Assist clients with disabilities in self-advocacy and self-determination in a variety of ways, such as coordination and/or provision of Self-Advocacy training.
  6. Assist clients in coordinating independent living activities for individuals with disabilities to live independently, participate in post-secondary education experiences, and obtain and retain competitive integrated employment.
  7. Provide training and technical assistance to Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Units.
  8. Develop and foster professional relationships with internal and external partners, such as employers and providers. Prepare and present on-going presentations on a variety of topics related to VR, WIOA, etc. 
 
 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Human Service Field, Counseling or Special Education and 2 years of related experience working directly with individuals with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience about disability programs and policies to include vocational rehabilitation, special education, career and technical education, and career pathways.
  • Demonstrated ability to train and present to stakeholders at various levels.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Master's degree in rehabilitation, social work, or a related field from an accredited college or university OR Bachelor's degree in rehabilitation, social work, education or a related area from an accredited college or university AND Two years of experience in vocational rehabilitation, human services, or a related field.
