Certified Rehabilitation Counselor for Deaf & Hard of Hearing

Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency is currently seeking Certified Rehabilitation Counselors throughout the state of Georgia to evaluate, authorize and coordinate vocational counseling activities and services for our Deaf and Hard of Hearing clients. This position assists eligible clients in preparing for, obtaining, and/or maintaining employment, and counsels with employers concerning their special needs. Cultivates and coordinates community and agency resources in advancement of this vocational goal and to ensure the provision of quality services to our clients.

Certified Rehab Counselor Certification and “Intermediate” level of proficiency standard rating based on the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) is required for this position.

If you do not have the certification, you will be hired as a Career Specialist. You qualify for the position of Career Specialist if you possess the following:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a human service field, counseling or special education and 2 years of related experience working directly with individuals with disabilities who are deaf or hard of hearing AND an “Intermediate” level of proficiency standard rating based on the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI).  (Note: Completion of Master’s degree in a human service field, counseling, or special education or closely related field will count as one year of experience.  Also, the successful completion of a counselor internship will count as one year of experience. 
NOTE: The successful completion of an internship will be deemed equivalent to one year of professional experience.
 
Preferred Qualifications:

You qualify for the position of Certified Rehabilitation Counselor if you possess the following:
Current certification as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor and Intermediate level of proficiency rating on the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI).

Master's degree in education, counseling, rehabilitation counseling, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university AND One year of professional experience in social work, counseling or equivalent areas OR Bachelor's degree in rehabilitation counseling, social work, or a closely related behavioral or social science field from an accredited college or university AND Two years of related experience OR One year of experience at the lower level Rehabilitation Counselor 2 (SSP061) or position equivalent. Note: Some positions may require specialized certification.
