Financial Support Worker
The Patient Financial Counselor offers financial options and assistance to patients and families regarding their medical bills. The Patient Financial Counselor performs a variety of financial counseling, accounting, clerical and related tasks to enhance the smooth handling of financial arrangements for all patients. Confers with patients and/or guarantors to explain their insurance coverage and limitations, while negotiating out of pocket expenses according to regulatory agency requirements and Center sliding fee scales (if applicable). The duties include but are not limited to the following job responsibilities:
- Works with Insurance carriers
- Checks and verifies insurance coverage for all individuals
- Telephones insurance carriers for required pre-certifications or authorizations
- Performs follow up necessary for re-certifications when required
- Works with Individuals
- Conducts interviews with individuals to educate them on benefit and payment issues in order to secure payment for services rendered
- Always maintains the confidentiality of individuals and their information
- Performs all calculations of patient fees and completes all payment agreement forms
- Acts as cashier for payments and maintains cash receipts with accuracy
- Performs documentation duties
- Enters all data of all appropriate information on to the EMR
- Completes necessary forms including proper documentation/signatures, insurance information/verification, etc and uploads to EMR
- Performs miscellaneous duties
- Reviews outstanding accounts and takes appropriate action for collection of funds
- Upon request, gather data for reporting or special projects
- May schedule appointments or file as needed
