State of Georgia Forensic Psychologist Positions

Job Description


The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities’ (DBHDD) Office of Forensic Services is currently seeking qualified candidates for the following Forensic Psychologist positions:


Forensic Psychologist (Inpatient)  
  • Completes court-ordered pretrial forensic psychological evaluations to answer questions of competency to stand trial and/or criminal responsibility as a neutral friend of the court Completes assessments on individuals admitted to a State Forensic Psychiatric Unit
  • Completes violence risk assessments (HCR-20 and START) and other psychological testing
  • Conducts treatment groups and psycho-educational interventions (may include sex offender treatment)
  • Provides guidance in recovery/treatment planning
  • Supervises team leaders and mental health counselors
  • Oversees competency remediation programming
  • Provides expert testimony
Forensic Psychologist (Outpatient)
  • Completes court-ordered pretrial forensic psychological evaluations to answer questions of competency to stand trial and/or criminal responsibility as a neutral friend of the court
  • Provides expert testimony
  • May serve as liaison with the courts for diversion of cases
Qualifications

All of the psychologist positions require a doctoral degree from an APA-accredited psychology program and eligibility for Georgia licensure as a psychologist upon appointment.


Preferred Qualifications


Forensic Psychologists would have one or more years of experience working in an inpatient psychiatric hospital as well as one or more years of formal training or experience in forensic mental health evaluation and treatment.

This forensic psychologist positions are a pay grade 19 on the statewide salary plan.


Employment Information


Outpatient positions may be available in multiple locations throughout Georgia.  State hospitals are located in Atlanta, Augusta, Columbus, Milledgeville, and Savannah.



Doctorate degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited college or university AND current Georgia license to practice psychology AND One year of experience at the lower level Psychologist 1 (HCP140) or equivalent. Note: License may be temporary, provisional, or permanent.
