Do you have a passion for the Constitution? Do you want to use your legal skills to advocate for the indigent? If you are seeking an opportunity to provide zealous and client-centered advocacy, in a collaborative environment, the Rome Judicial Circuit – Office of the Public Defender is seeking you as an Assistant Public Defender.

The Office of the Public Defender is dedicated to protecting and defending the rights and dignity of our clients through zealous, compassionate, and high-quality legal advocacy. As an Assistant Public Defender, you will be responsible for representing indigent clients in all phases of criminal proceedings, including arraignment, pretrial hearings, trial preparations, plea negotiations, trial, and sentencing.This position will give you extensive courtroom and trial experience in the Superior and/or Juvenile Courts of Floyd County, Georgia. 

Located “where the rivers meet and the mountains begin,” the city of Rome provides an ideal place to work and live. Rich with activities and opportunities, you can spend the day kayaking in Cedar Creek park, grab some lunch in the beautifully preserved historic downtown area, spend an evening with the Rome Symphony Orchestra, or just catch a baseball game with the Rome Braves. Rome is also ideally located, situated approximately one hour’s drive from Atlanta, Georgia and Chattanooga, Tennessee.

You should be a member in good standing with the State of Georgia Bar and possess a valid driver’s license. Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university AND license to practice law in the State of Georgia OR eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination OR reciprocity AND One year of relevant legal experience OR One year of experience required at the lower level Attorney 1 (LEP020).
