Job Description and Requirements:

Assistant Public Defender III

The Atlantic Circuit Public Defender’s Office is seeking to hire an experienced Assistant Public Defender to manage our satellite office in Reidsville, GA. A minimum of three years (3) of experience with significant first chair trial experience required. The chosen candidate will represent clients in Tattnall and Evans County State and Superior Court. Applicants must have the necessary skills to perform the responsibilities for the position. Strong work ethic and commitment to indigent defense required.

A desire to participate in Gideon’s Promise Core Training or NCDC’s Criminal Defense College required. 

The Atlantic Judicial Circuit covers six counties- McIntosh, Long, Liberty, Tattnall, Evans, and Bryan. The Tattnall/Evans position is based in our Reidsville office, 114 Brazell Street, Reidsville, GA 30453. (approx. 1 hour from Savannah / Pooler).

You have an obligation to, at minimum, reach out to all clients that are not in jail before every court date. You must call the clients.  You cannot wait for them to call you. You have obligation to, at minimum, see every incarcerated client prior to every court date – even if it is bond hearing number 10, you have to go see them again. Trial skills alone will not make you a successful public defender.

Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university AND license to practice law in the State of Georgia OR eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination OR reciprocity AND Two years of relevant legal experience OR Two years of experience required at the lower level Attorney 2 (LEP021).
