Position Overview:
Disability Adjudication Services (DAS) makes Social Security disability determinations under an agreement with the Social Security Administration. Provides professional disability adjudication for Social Security Administration disability applicants. Independently makes eligibility determinations on all types of disability claims involving all categories of disabilities; and performs other duties as required.  The main DAS office is in Stone Mountain with branch offices located in Athens, Dalton, Thomasville and Savannah. Positions filled through this announcement will be based in Stone Mountain, Georgia. 
 
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
Disability Hearing Officers conduct statewide administrative hearings on Social Security Administration Title II and Title XVI medical cessations at the reconsideration level of appeal.   
 
Conduct disability hearings and obtain testimony provided by the claimant/witness
Administer oath to hearing participants in preparation of the hearing
Travel to and from hearing sites throughout the state of GA (Overnight stay is required)
Travel advance or reimbursement for travel expense (hotel, gas, and meals) is available
Review case file and establish hearing dates
Research laws, regulations, policies, and precedent decisions.
Evaluate the need for additional evidence
Determine the level of severity of the claimant’s medical impairment
Analyze evidence to determine the appropriate conclusion
Prepare clear, well-written decisions in adherence to applicable timeframes
Average typing skills (35-40 wpm)
Effective Caseload Management skills
Excellent communication skills
 
Background Check Information:
As a condition of employment with Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency, you must successfully complete a mandatory federal and national background check, Pre-employment testing, and additional checks required for your job. In addition, employment with DAS is contingent upon meeting the requirements of Homeland Security Presidential Directive-12.
Bachelor's degree in a related area from an accredited college or university AND Four years of professional experience interpreting and applying laws regarding program eligibility OR Two years of experience required at the lower level Adjudicator 3 (LEP012) or position equivalent
