JOB SUMMARY: This position is designated to the Special Operations Team
to serve at the Sergeant of the facilities Security Emergency Response Team
(SERT). This position is supervising, guides, and/or instruct the work
assignments of subordinate staff. Performs as shift supervisor of a unit or
program. Maintains custody and security of the youth within the assigned
facility.
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES: Supervise and plan work assigned to staff. Completes
administrative paperwork, the preparation and maintenance of records, forms,
and reports. Develops work and security procedures. Enforces rules,
regulations, and state laws necessary for control and management of the youth
and the maintenance of public safety. Handles and train canines for tracking,
search and rescue, guard duty, detection of contraband. Inspects, inventories,
maintains physical control of, logs keys, tools, weapons and related equipment.
May conduct hearings of disciplinary infractions. Observe conduct and behavior
of the youth to prevent disturbances and escapes. Provide support in training,
selecting, and orienting subordinate correctional security staff. Read and
review the youth offender’s information to identify issues that require special
attention. Responds to emergencies.
POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES:
The position serves as Juvenile
Correctional Sergeant-SERT at the Augusta YDC working in the facility.
MINIUMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The selected candidate must meet the
advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well
as Agency Specific Qualifications.
STATE ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or GED AND P.O.S.T certification
AND Eighteen months of experience required at the lower level Correctional
Officer 2 (PSP061) or position equivalent.
