HR Specialist/Employee Relations


 


Overall Summary


 


Under general supervision, this role will provide Employee Relations and ensure compliance with DJJ policy and State Board Rules.  Advise employees, supervisors, and managers regarding employee relations issues, personnel policies, practices and regulations.  Serves as liaison with external entities including other agencies, organizations, committees, task forces, etc, as well as DJJ’s Office of Legal Services.  Responsibilities also include maintaining compliance with EEO, GCEO, ADA, investigating claims, developing processes. 


 


Primary Duties


 


  • Review/Investigate employee complaints and manage complaint process

  • Advise leadership on appropriate corrective actions and progressive discipline process

  • Draft correspondence regarding employee relations issues

  • Provide Employee Relations training to management and staff

  • Create and maintain Employee Relations files

  • Partner with the Office of Legal Services to resolve cases

  • Update and manage employee relations database/log


 


This position is also responsible for creating and managing employee relations files, assisting with agency drug screening process. Other duties may include serving as the agency Sexual Harassment Investigator and/or Sexual Harassment Coordinator.

  • Developing and managing progressive discipline process

  • Title VII, EEO, and ADA claims

  • Handling complaints and grievances

  • Policy management

  • Investigations

  • Comprehensive knowledge of employment laws

     

     


Preferred Qualifications


 


  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SP Certification
  • Certified Mediator
  • 4 or more years of experience handling Title VII, ADA, and EEO claims
  • 4 or more years of professional level experience working in Employee Relations and investigations experience
  • 2 or more years of Employee Relations experience working in a government agency or large corporation
  • Employee Relations experience with a law enforcement agency or department

Master's degree in a related area from an accredited college or university AND One year of related professional human resources experience in one or more of the areas of assignment OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university AND Three years of related professional human resources experience in one or more of the areas of assignment OR One year of experience required at the lower level HR Spec 2 (HRP021) or position equivalent. Note: An equivalent combination of education and job specific experience that provided the knowledge, experience and competencies required to successfully perform the job at the level listed may be substituted on a year-over-year basis.
