The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities provides treatment and support services to people with mental health challenges and substance use disorders, and assists individuals who live with intellectual and developmental disabilities. 

 

The Forensic Juvenile Psychologist will be part of the Community Forensic Services – East Team. The area covered by this team is East of Atlanta to the Georgia State line, South of Hartwell, GA, and North of Waynesboro, GA.  The successful candidate will travel to points in this area as needed to conduct interviews of defendants and to testify in Court, but can work from home to complete the written reports. 

 

The Office of Forensic Services provides forensic evaluation and treatment for individuals who are under the jurisdiction of the Superior, State, and Juvenile courts of Georgia. Forensic services complete competency to stand trial and criminal responsibility (insanity) evaluations in response to orders from Georgia superior and state courts. DBHDD also provides inpatient treatment for individuals adjudicated incompetent to stand trial or not guilty by reason of insanity who meet the criteria for inpatient treatment by a superior or state court. Finally, DBHDD provides outpatient competency restoration services and monitoring of insanity acquittees on conditional release.

 

We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Forensic Psychologist for evaluations of juveniles in the Juvenile or Superior court systems.

 

Job Responsibilities & Performance Standards:

  • Conducts court-ordered pre-disposition forensic psychological evaluations to answer questions of competency to stand trial, treatment/dispositional needs, and waiver to/from Superior court as a neutral friend of the court.
  • Provides expert testimony
  • Collaborates with community providers for remediation of juveniles found incompetent to stand trial.
  • May also be involved with adult competency and responsibility evaluations.

Additional Specific Qualifications

"License eligible" if able to obtain within a reasonable time (i.e. relocation from another state)

Federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program qualified employer


Doctorate degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited college or university AND current Georgia license to practice psychology AND One year of experience at the lower level Psychologist 1 (HCP140) or equivalent. Note: License may be temporary, provisional, or permanent.
