We handle many issues involving Livestock and Poultry on a daily basis. Whether at a public sale, market or show, enforcement of health regulations and laws pertaining to state requirements, our mission is to keep Georgians and animals healthy. We enforce and regulate the statutes governing the public sale of livestock and poultry, livestock disease control and livestock auction markets and sales.
This position is assigned to the Georgia Department of Agriculture Atlanta Office Headquarters.
Under limited supervision, this position serves as the Concentrated Animal Feeding Operator (CAFO) Coordinator for the Department. As such, this position performs and maintains existing animal waste inspection protocols to assure compliance with applicable water quality rules, regulations and permits; conducts and reviews inspections of permitted animal feeding operations throughout the State; responds to complaints related to compliance with waste collection, treatment, handling, disposal, land application areas, land application equipment and management procedures; works cooperatively with local, state and federal agencies to achieve compliance; performs routine review of nutrient management plants for the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) and Land Application System (LAS) permitted farms; processes permit applications, transfers and notices of permit status submitted by regulated Goergia Animal Feeding Operation; other duties as assigned.
This position also serves as the Deputy Manager for the Livestock and Poultry Program and, as such, assists the Program Manager with the planning, organizing, and coordination of activities within the Program, serves as Interim Manager in the Program Manager's absence, and assists the Livestock and Poultry office in administrative components and other duties as required.

applicants, who, inaddition to meeting the Minimum
Qualifications, possess knowledge, skills and abilities in the following areas:
Knowledge of, and experience with animal industry and
livestock and poultry
Knowledge of federal and state laws and rules involving
livestock and poultry
Leadership qualities
Ability to work closely with others, and effect
positive change as a contributing team member
Skilled in conflict management and professional
communication, both verbally and in writing
Technical Competencies:
Ability to perform inspection activities according to
appropriate established regulations, directives, and procedures
Ability to identify disease and insects that affect
animals
Ability to identify violations of federal and state
laws, rules and regulations
Ability to follow up on complaints and reported
violations
Working knowledge of Windows computer operating system
and applications including various databases
Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in
writing, in a timely and accurate fashion with peers, management, private
industry, etc.
Ability to prioritize and schedule job duty
requirements
Ability to work independently and with a team
Excellent reading, writing and analytical skills
Demonstrated skill in coordinating and solving problems
Strong Organizational skills
Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university OR Associate's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND One year of related experience OR High school diploma or GED AND Two years of related experience. Note: Some positions may require a valid driver's license.
