Oversees the operation of an aviation program or air transportation office. Develops and implements flight safety and maintenance policies. Provides leadership to subordinate managers and staff.
Advises on expenditures of state funds. Determines if a flight can be made. Develops and implements flight safety, standardization, and maintenance policies. Directs flight and maintenance operations in accordance with the standards set forth by Federal Aviation Regulations. Interviews, hires, directs, trains, evaluates the performance of, and when necessary, disciplines and discharges air transportation employees. Maintains appropriate reports and logs, and complies with all applicable rules and regulations. Manages human resources and directs administrative activities for air transportation employees. Trains pilots in the safest methods of operating aircraft in dangerous flight conditions. When necessary, operates aircraft as chief pilot, pilot-in-command, or co-pilot
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university AND Five years of management training and experience in aviation operations and multi-aircraft flight commander functions. Note: Meets agency specific flight hour requirements. Holds appropriate FAA certification for agency specific missions and aircraft types.
