Health Sciences Core Instructor - Effingham Campus
Savannah
Technical College is seeking a 12 month full-time faculty member. The faculty will provide theory and practical
instruction to a level sufficient for students to develop the skills necessary
to progress into a post secondary Health Science program or become employed in
their chosen Health Sciences profession.
The position may also require the supervision of students during patient
care. Responsibilities are based at the
Effingham Campus, but will require travel to any Savannah Technical College
Campus location.
· Develop,
manage, and teach classes, delivering instruction both individually and as a
member of a team;
· Prepares
lesson plans for classroom instruction for credited and occupational courses;
· Advise
and register health sciences students;
· Develop
and coordinate curriculum; conduct assessments of all courses taught in the
department as requested;
· Evaluate
effectiveness of courses through student data, graduate surveys, and employer
surveys;
· Complete
reports and requests for information from internal and external departments and
agencies;
· Ensure
compliance with accreditation standards of regional and national accrediting
agencies;
· Participate
in advisory committees for the department, as well as other College committees
and meetings;
· Collaborate
with colleagues on common curriculum areas;
· Instructing
students, developing program syllabi, goals, and objectives;
· Initiate
and facilitate student activities for health care assistant and health care
science students;
· Assists
with recruitment, retention, and job placement efforts;
· Assists
with managing adjunct faculty teaching schedules;
· Assists
with cataloging and ordering equipment and supplies;
· Assists
with developing the annual health sciences core budget(s);
· Serve
as the Exposure Control Coordinator as needed;
· Maintain
knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by attending staff development training, workshops, seminars and conferences;
· Follow
policies/procedures of Savannah Technical College, to include standards for
student-faculty professional relationships/interaction;
· Have
skill in oral and written communication;
· Have
basic computer skills to include, but not limited to, word; excel; power point;
and email;
· Have
excellent organizational and customer service skills to deal professionally
with Savannah Tech employees, students, and visitors;
· Must
possess valid driver’s license and required insurability.
· Perform
other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s
Degree from an accredited post-secondary institution.
· Unencumbered
Georgia Registered Nurse license.
Preferred
Qualifications:
· Master’s
Degree from an accredited post-secondary institution.
· Current
certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid.
· Teaching
experience in nurse aide/patient care technician program or course.
· Nurse
Aide Program Train the Trainer certification
· Experience
teaching in postsecondary education.
· Experience
teaching phlebotomy program.
· Instructor
certification for CPR and First Aid preferred.
· Proficient
in the use of Banner and Blackboard.
Physical Demands
Teaching
responsibilities are typically performed in a classroom/lab environment with
the employee intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, pushing, and
pulling for three (3) – four (4) continuous hours at a time. The employee frequently lifts/carries objects
that weigh 10lbs. or less. Clinical
responsibilities are typically performed in a hospital, long term care
facility, or other medical facilities and require that the employee stand/or
walk for seven (7) – eight (8) hours: bend, twist, push/and or pull for three
(3) – four (4) hours; and occasionally lift 50lbs. to 75lbs. per rotation. The exposure to infectious diseases, gas, or
fumes is possible during clinical rotations.
Salary/Benefits
Salary
is commensurate with education and work experience. Benefits include paid state holidays, annual
and sick leave, and the State of Georgia Benefits package.
