Job Description and Requirements:

Assistant Public Defender I

The Southern Judicial Circuit Public Defender’s Office is seeking to hire an entry level Assistant Public Defender I in our Valdosta Office, which covers Brooks, Echols and Lowndes Counties. Primary duties include representing indigent clients with criminal cases in Superior Court. Applicants must meet the qualifications and have the necessary skills to perform the job duties and responsibilities for the position. Applicants must be a current member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia. A strong commitment to indigent defense is also required. Although interviews will be scheduled as soon as possible, the deadline for submission is September 20, 2019 or until the position is filled.

Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university AND license to practice law in the State of Georgia OR eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination OR reciprocity (must obtain Law License). Note: Some positions may not allow the eligibility clause.
