Cyber Defense Operations Instructor/CIST Department Head
Savannah Technical College seeks a Department Head/Instructor for the Cyber and Related Program. The department head will provide theory and practical instruction to a level sufficient for students to develop the skills necessary to become employed in the computer information systems field. Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Preparing lesson plans for classroom instruction.
Instructing students, developing program and syllabi, goals and objectives.
Using a variety of teaching methods to facilitate adult learning and provides educational assistance to individual students as needed.
Curriculum development and management; integrating work ethics, fire prevention, and other appropriate health and safety procedures in the institutional program.
Evaluating students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives.
Evaluating program effectiveness, developing and implementing plans to improve student success rate of end-of-course exit examinations as needed.
Supervising adjunct and/or full-time faculty, coordinating new faculty hires in designated area. Verifies appropriate faculty qualifications for all candidates.
Actively managing academic program budget, to ensure adherence to college budget and purchasing requirements and policies.
Preparing and maintaining all required documentation and administrative reports.
Requesting and maintaining supplies and equipment.
Maintaining program certification requirements, as appropriate.
Maintaining knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by attending staff development training, workshops, seminars and conferences.
Meeting with students, staff members, and other educators to discuss students’ instructional programs and other issues impacting the progress of students.
Participating in program enrollment and registration for assigned programs, to include new student advisement and registration.
Ensuring the consistent exercise of Savannah Technical College and Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) academic policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and other criteria or guidelines among all and across all campuses.
Serving on appropriate college standing and ad hoc committees.
Duties include a flexible schedule of lecture, student advisement and registration. Successful candidate must be willing to work split teaching shifts that might require split teaching days and/or multiple campuses. Must fully embrace the responsibility for maintaining an acceptable number of students within program and also work diligently to maximize student placements in this field or related fields by working directly with local employers and the Department of Labor.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution.
Three (3) years of full-time, paid, Cyber-related and/or Computer Information Systems work experience within the past seven (7) years.
Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in supervising academic personnel or administering academic programs.
Knowledge of academic accreditation processes.
Proven experience in maintaining lesson plans and course notebooks that reflect current curriculum.
Experience in designing and implementing quality improvement programs.
Preferred
Qualifications
- Experience teaching at the postsecondary level
Industry certification(s): MCSA, MCSE, CompTia A+, Network+, MOS, or Security+
Ability to cross over into the following areas: Networking, Programming, Web site design, and Web development

Demands
Responsibilities are typically performed in a
classroom or laboratory environment with the employee intermittently sitting,
standing, walking, bending, pushing and pulling for up to three (3) – four (4)
continuous hours at a time. The employee
occasionally lifts or moves objects of a light to medium weight, up to 50lbs. Full
range of hand and finger motion may be utilized for data entry purposes.
