JOB SUMMARY: Supervises, guides, and/or instruct the work assignments of subordinate staff. Assist the shift supervisor with administration of unit or program. Maintains custody and security of the youth and maintain order in the facility and other assigned areas.

 

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES: The selected candidate will supervise, and plans work of assigned staff. Completes administrative paperwork, the preparation and maintenance of records, forms, and reports. Develops work and security procedures. Enforces rules, regulations, and state laws necessary for control and management of offenders and the maintenance of public safety. Inspects, inventories, maintains physical control of, logs keys, tools, weapons and related equipment. Maintains knowledge of, comply with, and enforce all institutional policies, rules, procedures, and regulations. Maintains order, discipline, and security within assigned areas in accordance with relevant rules, regulations, policies and laws. May conduct hearings of disciplinary infractions. Observes conduct and behavior of offenders to prevent disturbances and escapes. Provide support in training, selecting, and orienting subordinate correctional security staff. Reads and reviews the youth information to identify issues that require special attention. Quickly respond to emergencies.


POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES: The position serves as Juvenile Correctional Sergeant at the Macon RYDC working in the facility.  


MINIUMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Qualifications.

 

STATE ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or GED AND P.O.S.T certification AND Eighteen months of experience required at the lower level Correctional Officer 2 (PSP061) or position equivalent.
