Central State Hospital (CSH) is located in Milledgeville, the lake country of central Georgia and is Georgia’s antebellum capital. CSH is approximately 2 hours from Atlanta, 2 hours and 30 minutes from Savannah and 1 hour and 45 minutes from Augusta.
Central State Hospital (CSH) is currently seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. CSH is the home of Georgia’s maximum secure forensic hospital, operated in the Payton B. Cook building in Milledgeville. With 180 beds, the hospital serves individuals who are referred by the criminal justice system for pre-trial psychiatric evaluation and/or inpatient treatment; those who have been found not guilty by reason of insanity at the time of commission of a crime or mentally incompetent to stand trial; and those who are admitted on hold orders from jails for psychiatric evaluation, treatment and stabilization. Central State Hospital is the premier Forensic Hospital operated by Georgia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD).
Job Description
Under the supervision of a physician, provide medical care to inpatients, including physical examination, assessment & evaluation, counseling, referral patients to specialists, and may, in some cases, prescribe medication.
Job Responsibilities & Performance Standards
Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments
Examine clients to obtain information about physical and/or mental health
Assists with developing comprehensive treatment plans of care (incorporating physical & MH needs)
Recommend appropriate therapies and counsel mental health clients
Assist psychiatrist with the clinical management of clients on the psychiatrist’s treatment team
Maintain a caseload of 12+ clients
Ensure QA measures are met and maintained and participate as a member for PI initiatives

Master's degree in respective nursing field from an accredited college or university AND Four years of experience in a related area AND current license to practice as APRN in Georgia in the specialty area (Psychiatric specialty area requires a minimum of Four years mental health experience. Medical specialty area requires a minimum of Six years mental health experience) OR Bachelor's degree in physician assistant studies from an accredited college or university AND Six years of general medicine experience OR Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND completion of a physician assistant training program of at least Twenty-Four months certified by the Accreditation Review Commission of PA, ARC-PA AND certification to practice as a Physician Assistant by the Composite State Board of Medical Examiners (or eligibility to obtain within One year) AND Four years of experience in a related area.
